Jodz delivered Kade at 3:25pm this arvo by C-section at Lismore Base. He weighed in at 10lb 7 oz so it was a good decision to have a caeser. He asked for a bacon and egg burger.

Change of seasons

As usual , due to geographical reasons, Lennox saw a lot of lightning and some rain but areas to the north-west and north scored the full brunt of yesterday's storms. This is the golf course at Byron 22.10.08

H.O.G Thunder Run

2000 Harleys in Lennox for the long weekend. This is the H.O.G Thunder Run around the Point and down into town on Sunday morning. My tape ran out but we guess there was another 400-500 bikes after the tape finished. Lana and Ash were stoked and some of the riders threw lollipops to them.

Southern Comfort ??

Click on the image to enlarge

So we have just had 2 weeks of non-stop south swell and we are all sore and satisfied. The next 4 -5 days look like it is gunna be flat but then we have this monster on the weekend. The recent swells have moved thousands of tons of sand into some very different places. The next 4-5 days flat spell will provide a great chance to review the current setups, but we could be looking at waves in places we have never seen. There is massive build ups of sand like I've never seen around here. Stay tuned and watch out Sunny Coast in a couple of months because there is sand coming like you wouldn't believe.

Maybe Winter Waves

This winter has been pathetic for waves here. June had maybe 3 good days, one of which included me going face first into the reef at Trestles when I tried to ride a dry sucking barrel behind a tourist that dropped in on me. This is the first semi convincing system that has slid into our swell window . Look how tight that central point of the low is . It looks like a barreling wave . The swell is going to have a SW bias but there is a chance we might get some south swell to fix up the errant sand at the point and some cold offshore pits. It hasn't really happened yet this winter but theres a chance. Thursday is looking the goods , the same day I am getting a vasectomy , yay !!

Winter Fishing

Went fishing with Curto on Sunday Morning. We went out thru the reef an hour and a half before sunrise with the moonlight at low tide which was a mission. I nabbed some big Bream but chucked them back. Glen scored this Snapper that he reckoned was as much fun landing as getting an 8 sec barrel , he was pretty stoked.

Just bought a new camera today. Normally we cannot get a photo of Asher looking at the camera and he rarely lets Lana cuddle him. HOW BLOODY GREAT IS THIS SHOT. A rare moment.

Just 2 more weeks until the boys rock up

This is Phoenix descending to the Martian surface underneath its parachute. This incredible shot was taken by the HiRISE camera on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. You are seeing a man made object falling gracefully and with intent to the surface of an alien world, as seen by another man made object already circling that world, both of them acting robotically, and both of them hundreds of millions of kilometers away.Mars Express made some snapshots during descent as well, so there’s more of these pics to come

We have just changed over to this new template so the post dates are all wrong. They will be OK from now on

From little things big things grow

You have to love this track by Paul Kelly and friends. One of our favorites.

Artificial Waves

This looks very interesting. Greg Webber is a mad scientist and generally a bit of a tool but if he can get this going then we might be able to surf even more often.

Good Old Days

Matt Bryce gave me these photos the other day at the Lennox Point National Surfing Reserve dedication ceremony. He reckons they are from '87.

Busy

Lach and Kai are living with us now so this blog is suffering because I have not had the same amount of free time as before. The Le-Ba blog is taking a lot more time these days (20-30 hours a week) but I really enjoy doing it. We had an amazing lightning show over the ocean tonight. There was a totally clear sky with fire works supplied by Huey. I found this in an email today "There's nothing wrong with you that reincarnation won't cure." - Jack E.Leonard

The exchange between Churchill & Lady Astor: She said, "If you were my
husband I'd give you poison," and he said, "If you were my wife, I'd drink
it."
That will do for tonight

Looking East

Our run of active monsoon and cyclone development just keeps going with the arrival of TC Funa in our eastern swell window. Its movement over the next couple of days should see Funa hovering in perfect position to send us a good run of ESE swell. A southerly change coming off the Tasman low should fill the rest of the equation for cranking waves

No barrels for Steve

The surf is horrendous again today, onshore winds and poo brown filthy flood water runoff. It might be a while til we can get out there again. This is as close as I am gonna get at the moment. How good is this in the barrel footage?

Lovely weather isn't it ?

So we just had the cyclone that was not a cyclone. All the sand gone and not really any rideable waves. The Richmond River has just experienced our biggest flood since '74 and in some areas even bigger. Water restrictions are off with the latest from Rous Water saying "Rocky Creek dam level on Jan 9 2008 is 101.46%"
Weatherzone has this synoptic forecast chart for Saturday. I reckon that looks a lot like the pattern that we were just subjected to, if not slightly weaker

This was todays surf report from Coastalwatch

"Messy sloppy 2ft waves early this morning. OK for longboards and groms. Dirty water that is unsafe to surf near Richmond river. Reports of a bull along with heaps of other debris washing out the river and out into the surf."

That sounds inviting eh ?

This is the report from Swellnet today

"Onshore conditions with brown water and overcast skies isn't exactly picture postcard stuff. The positioning of a low off the Queensland coast and moving in towards Fraser Island is far from ideal for Ballina Shire, meaning an extended run of onshore winds. Why are those lows getting "stuck" there? Seems like there is an invisible magnet off Fraser Island holding them there. Anyway while that pattern persists unless you are fond of surfing onshores with muddy water then Byron is your best bet."

I have had three surfs in three weeks and I can't see myself getting out there in a hurry.Check the footage below for a reminder of the way it can be around here.

Summer has teeth

Well what a difference a couple of weeks makes. Here I was whinging about swell and then it all started cranking up. At the moment we have a monsoonal low system that is trying to fire up off the central coast of Queensland. All of the forecasts have changed radically every 6 hours over the last 18 hours. At this stage we are looking at a low pressure system that may or may not develop into a cyclone. It may or may not turn SE or SW and smash the coast but it will definitely intensify over the next couple of days. If it gets really big the banks out the point are gone for sure, but we may get 1-2 days of big goodness if the wind behaves itself. Most websites are calling for something between 10-20 feet for about the next 5 days with southerly winds. It is a matter of time right now, what have you got up your sleeve Huey ?

Whinge and win

The amazing power of the internet has been revealed once again. The day I wrote my previous post the surf cranked up in a decidedly un- summerish fashion. We've had swell and light S-SW winds for a week. The sand out at the point has been groomed almost perfectly so there are barrels no matter what the tide is doing. There may be a problem with writing this without whinging so I'll finish by saying "Come on Huey, bring it on!"

I am only posting text at the moment because Telstra throttled us for downloading over 12 gigs. Bastards.

Summer sucks

North Wall winter '07 Le-Ba contest. Summer sucks. We have a 4' East swell today and southerly winds but this is the first time in ages that all the conditions have coincided. A brief respite from the northerly wind chop. Maybe this year the BOM warnings of a nasty cyclone season might actually happen.
